They're all at it..
Undeveloped thoughts for a Saturday morning..
- I don't buy into the idea that we all have one hidden talent that we are outstanding at. Obviously there's the work that goes into making you outstanding but also there's too wide a spectrum in humanity for this to be the case. And in any case going around believing that there's one thing you could be outstanding at probably won't ultimately help you to be everything you could be. But then neither is accepting mediocrity I guess.. Once again I've excelled myself and saying something and nothing.
- I will be the next in a long line of people choosing to comment and I probably shouldn't, but as a society we're still being shallow and cynical in our approach to Susan Boyle. Ok, yeah, people judged the book by the cover (which these programs encourage us to do anyway by showing people who are both "ugly" and "talentless" for our titillation) and shouldn't have been as surprised as they were that she could belt it, but we're really just swapping one external for another anyway. By saying (effectively) that it's ok 'cos she can sing we're still not accepting her as she is.
I.. think?
Anyways. I'll be off. Mebbe I'll develop these thoughts. Probably not.
ovaryout.
