some kind of consumer

I sometimes get a little headstruck with advertising and marketing you know..

Like all these emails I get from Amazon or Tesco or whoever.

So much time and effort spent and apparently wasted on me. I don't even go to their site to turn off the email options, I just delete the emails.

I like to think I'm the kind of consumer that just goes out for whatever I need at a given moment. Most of the times I don't think I can be too heavily influenced by advertising. I'm probably wrong.

It might just be the bracket I'm in. Because you see, it's conceivable that I could see an advert for a crunchie and impulse buy it. It has happened. But financially I don't roll like that for, say, DVDs or CDs, let alone cars and all that.

So I guess the point I'm trying to make might be in there somewhere.

I like to think of these posts as mini Michael Crichton books. Lots of stuff in the middle but basically ending up with nothing changed by the end.

I really should have thought this all through a little more.

I don't think the sole purpose of advertising is to make people impulse buy though... I too don't feel the subliminal messages have any effect on me, but a lot of the purpose of advertising is just to raise the profile of the company and tell you about what they do and that they do it well/cheap/in a way that will make you happy and fulfilled in life (delete as appropriate). For example, seeing endless DFS adverts on TV has never caused me to rush out and buy a sofa, but should a time in my life come when I decide I would like to buy a new sofa, there is a good chance I will think of DFS and pay them a visit.

When you do buy CD's, who do you buy them from?
