Seriously, this made me laugh 'til I cried. That's important in this world.

tonight, tonight

Tonight is already shaping up to be funs™. It's Life Sentence's last gig (as you should know if you've been paying attention) which is very much sad, but it will also be a good crack.

That's all I have to say about that. See you on the flipside..

I say, here's fun..

I live almost every day
I work it 24/7
I talk rubbish
I wish you could see
I enjoy your company
I look under every stone
I find I work best under pressure
I smell delightful
I hide my true feelings
I pray sporadically
I walk only when I can't get the car
I write gibberish
I see all the visible parts of the spectrum
I sing too loudly
I can can
I watch dvds too often
I yearn for change
I daydream too often
I want a pony
I cry freedom
I read lord of the rings
I love like it's going out of fashion
I sometimes sing out of key
I touch myself
I hurt the ones I love the most
I fear a cage
I hope because sometimes there isn't anything else to do
I break plates, cups and glasses
I eat more than 3 square meals a day
I quit the browser if it crashes
I bathe when I need to relax
I drink all the live long day
I stop at nothing
I save the best til just before last
I hug awkwardly
I am in a prison of my own making
I play the fool
I miss the summer until it's summer
I hold on tight
I forgive everybody
I drive on the left, bitch
I learn very quickly
I have no original thoughts
I don't always mean everything I say
I made a mess and I'm pleased with it
I kiss like you wouldn't believe
I believe like you wouldn't kiss (what?)
I wait so you don't have to
I need a good kick up the arse
I feel so much better
I know I haven't taken this seriously, but would you?
I wonder what makes you tick
I am sorry

bonus time is just around the corner

Heylo my good feylos. Fellows. Whatever.

Getting that strange local distortion of gravity around the eyelids phenomenon going on right now so I'd better be brief. Tonite was cooked the pie of cottages. It was nice thank you. Also spent the afternoon cooking chilli for 16.

Nearly birthweek. Here at party central we've been asked to tone down the celebrations this year. So I will be mostly drinking moonshine from my own personal still. Nothing like it.

If you were stuck wondering what to get me, well now you don't have to. Everyone go to: http://www.scarygoround.com/shop.php and buy me stuff. I particularly don't have the doom balloon t-shirt or the latest books or any prints.

Ahem.

Nite.

Life Sentence: Good night, sleep tight

It happens every so often and, by its nature, there are never enough people who know about the situation to mourn. I'm talking, of course about up-and-coming bands breaking up before their time - before the number of people who should know about them actually do. If you haven't already heard, Life Sentence have announced the end of their time together.

Usually the eulogy is full of overstatement and hyperbole, touching a spot in the hearts of those who knew and loved the band and leaving a slightly blank stare on the faces of those that didn't. In this case I don't think it's an overstatement to say that Life Sentence affected people significantly, both musically and personally, and that their absence in the local music scene will leave a big hole.

We first met Dan when we were planning the third smackbosh and the rest of Life Sentence at the actual gig. I'm so glad we did. We've had some great times playing together and we were looking forward to more times playing together. All of the members of Life Sentence are so easy to get on with instantly and to hang out with.

The break up can, I guess, be chalked up to 'one of those things'. When you're in a band it's not always easy to keep on one path together. You can find all sorts of things pulling you in all directions. Sometimes it's external, sometimes internal, but it's never an easy choice and pointing fingers and trying to assign blame is, especially in this case, extremely futile.

Life Sentence will be playing their final gig on Friday 30th March and there will be many friends there to celebrate the all too short life span of a fantastic band. Thankfully they have been able to leave us a legacy in the form of the CDs and the memories.

I'm left thinking what other musical greats we might have heard, given that it's possible for bands like Life Sentence to break up before becoming well known.

Dan, Scott, Jack, Liam (and Ben) our hats are off to you, gentlemen.

Goodnight.

I don't like cricket

I love it.

Songs that get in your head eh?

How you all are these days? Good good. Pleased to hear it.

The busiest of weekends (not really) has for the most part passed. Fun times have been had. Alcohol has been consumed (I know, I know, but try to contain your disdain, Anonymous), films have been watched, books read, chats had and naturally, outrages discussed.

I didn't even mention the food that has been cooked.

El thinks I'm talking about things on here that I'm not. So does Fizz. Although one of the things they thought I was talking about was them, so I guess that's kind of true now. The conversation (or them asking questions) is getting a. intense b. weird.

Right. Done. And. Out

Homophobia

Hello again.

Sorry, just had to blog this one:

"And in an earlier interview with the Observer newspaper, [Elton John] said he would like to see all organised religion banned and accused it of trying to 'turn hatred towards gay people'."

From http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/6475255.stm

What a genius!

I want to see all organised (or otherwise) Elton Johns banned because they're trying to turn hatred towards organised religion.

If you paint with such broad brushstrokes Mr John, you are guilty of the bigotry you so rightly despise.

I realise I've been thin on the ground lately. Something to do with something I shouldn't think.

We played the River Bar in Maidstone last nite. It was good. My 'rents will be pleased to know that there was no further deterioration in the throat department at least.

Not much else to report. I've been kept busy (and tired) recently and my fingers really aren't in the typing game this week, alright?

Tonite is Jack's Open Mic for those in the know. Tonite I will mostly be falling asleep during a David Ford song probably as that's what I mostly seem to play.

Hello.

I have an addictive personality I think. Here's some reasons:
  • I once listened to the bananaphone 20 or 30 times in a row.
  • I played minesweeper. A lot.
  • The whole 24 thing.
  • Some other stuff
  • Probably

See?

there and back again

divergence of relevance of post title to post increases with time my good friends.

This are be a busy weekend. Tomorrow is red nose day and I unfortunately will not be able to watch it all as I am going to a gig at the Clapham Grand which our potential manager is involved with. Should be fun.

Then Saturday we be playing in the New Ash Green. It's St. Patrick's Day so I'm guessing there'll be a fair few drunk peoples there. Always a pleasure.

Sunday morning I'm playing in church and oh my gosh we have a drummer for the first time in the longest of whiles. Then it's down to Hastings to celebrate Mothership Day. Hooray.

Gosh.

Bed.

calm yourself

Hello there oh blog of my blog.

What pleasant weather we have been having of late. And all us britlanders can do is talk about it. It is useful though when you're rubbish at small talk. How do you leave a small talk conversation politely once you've both sensed that it is just small talk and it's not going anywhere? I find the best I can do is make some kind of lame excuse ('gotta go get some.. something') or pretend to have seen someone. Or actually see someone.

Just had a nice old bath. Always a treat.

And now to cook.

You knew what they say..

No news is good news I guess.

The front page (and page 3) story in one of the red tops yesterday was about a video from 1989. You of course had to read the story quite a way in to discover this information. Apparently someone did something back then and has since said things that make her a hypocrite.

The utter, utter, shock of it. They should just follow me around for a week. They'd be able to retire early.

It's a good thing I wasn't eating porridge or muesli at the time. The kitchen may have got a spattering.

That's all I got right now.

Against whom?

Just had an interesting start of a thought process in the car. It was down to a conversation with El, the origins of which are difficult to pinpoint in my redwine-addled brain.

Nevertheless let's try and spark this thought into the webbernet and see what criticism it gets us (precious).

I find it interesting the way that some people (coughchristianscough) carry on against this and that and the other..

I do have in my mind a particular example, although I could most likely come up with others. I recently received an email that tells us to:

Take a second to cast your vote in the Evening Standard online poll to determine public opinion about whether a mega mosque should be built for the Olympics.

The vote so far is 62 % in favour. It looks like the Muslim community is casting its vote in droves, and as usual the Christians are burying their head in the sand.

Let's leave aside for a second the "Muslim community.. in droves" comment as I'm sure you can all appreciate the overstatement without my drawing attention to it (oops just did never mind).. What message is being sent here? What message should be sent?

Don't get me wrong, I think it's a good thing to stand up for what you believe in. But I think I'm right in saying that people like Jesus and Paul made stands mainly against people on the inside who were opressing other people. I suspect (and bear in mind that I really wouldn't consider myself a scholar in this area) that these guys wouldn't have wasted their time signing a petition against the local temple to whoever or local businesses or laws or whatever. I think they'd have been out there talking to people and oh so more importantly LOVING people EXACTLY WHERE THEY WERE. No sodding strings attached.

I actually would love this to be a debate (although this is not the best setting for that) because I'm very interested in learning what people have to say on all sides.

The only thing is that I'm right and you're wrong so bite me. Just kidding folks, that's what the fundamentalist in all of us would like to be saying. But we won't let it, hey?

As an aside did you know that the spirit of fundamentalism resides outside of religions? It's true. There's fundamentalist atheists out there too. BEWARE.

Ok I'm about done. Over to you..

Saturday nite cabin fever..

It's been an interesting day. From this evening backwards I guess.. In a few minutes we're off to a partay. Right now I am watching Red Dwarf - Quarantine. Before we had some Friends. I also got a cheap pair of new shoes this afternoon. Good stuff. Lunch. Nick was over. Fizz has been around too. I did try and lie in this morning but it left me with a sore neck/back.

Enough of the minutiae. This isn't helping anybody.

Where would sitcoms and short televisual stories be without the old deus ex machina eh? I guess if you've got a short time span and want to explore more in depth ideas whilst still retaining the situation (it's a sit-com after all) you've only got a limited number of ways of achieving that. Done well it can really enhance a story. Done badly it can fair give you jip (what's that? It was all a dream? Hurrah!).

I expect you all knew that anyway. You clever peoples.

What's your favourite deus ex machina? I think mine would have to be the ending to Enemy of the State. Although maybe that's more of a mexican standoff. Who can know?

always when you least expect it.

This is a list..

  • I've had 3 nosebleeds this evening. I don't know what that means

  • Open Mic went ok thank you.

  • I was meaning to post a photo today but somehow a nice photo never presented itself

  • I've been reading my own archives today. As far as I'm concerned the golden age so far has been around Summer 2006. In my opinion, of course.

  • Speaking of which, who can't wait til Summer?

The end.

blank canvas

Ahhh morning time. When the day has such possibilities. The world could be full of kittens and blog posts and chance meetings and cups of teas.

I'm told the secret to having a popular or even, dare I say it, useful blog is to find that one subject that you know and love and write passionately about it day by day. Now a lot of you may be saying, "but Toby, you already do that", but hear me out. I don't think I major in any one subject (no, not even myself, though I do a good job of pretending to love myself that much). Certainly not enough to blog about. I like to dabble in a bit of everything.

The question here this morning is does that create an overall rounded view of the world or do I miss out?

Sadly, the one thing I do excel in is half-finished thoughts and inconclusive essayettes. So you can imagine what's going to happen, can't you?

That's right, I've got to go and put the rubbish out..

leave of absence

Oh my. It goes from bad to worse doesn't it.

Here's a few thoughts for you:
  • What's with all this consolidation of online stuff? Blogger and google logins, yahoo and flickr logins. I'm sure there's more. Perhaps it will make things easier in the long run so that you can just log in once and you're done, but surely it's a little dangerous to have all your eggs in one basket?
  • I know I say it a lot, but I appear to have proofs (PROOFS!) now: I'm tired. So tired in fact that when we had Aran and Carla round I kept drooping. I thought this might be one off, but then it happened with Jon and Kelly last nite too. Maybe I do too much
  • "I was cooking beans" is not a good excuse for mistaking Dominic Monaghan for Billy Boyd.
  • Once again I will be hitting the streets of Brighton for a night out. It's been a while.

That's about that.

One more thing. I stumbled across the following "table" whilst browsing wikipedia and ending up at the Received Pronunciation article. Now is it me, or is some academic dude having a gee-rarf? I think so. Would you just look at it!

K I'm done.

3 good things

1. Aran and Carla are here. YAY x 8 and a half

2. We (strangeday - or three quarters of anyway) had a meeting in London with a potential manager. Good meeting, funny times.

3. Aran just taught me a wicked new trick.

Byethen.
