let me tell you..

I bet you all were wondering where the posts have been? No? Oh. Well never ye fare the well of... um.. That sentence went awry. Yes. Yes I used the word awry. Have I been drinking? Why do you ask that? What? Go away.

Anyways, it's true that recently the posts have been coming thick and fast. But that's only because I'm addicted to the internet, so calm down.

Right. All the rubbish aside let's concentrate on what really all is going down on here y'all..

Tonite was Open Mic nite. We've been holding these open mic nites in Jack's honour for quite some time now. And they've been alright. But tonite my favourite moment of all happened. Oh boy. Mark played sax for 'What would you have me do'. Hummina. Mark is amazing on sax but he doesn't like to think so. But in any case it was fantastic.

While we're here, can I just take a second to tell you about David Ford again? No? Well actually I think you're rather wrong there. I can do whatever the carp I like. I'm tobiwan and you may well have noticed that this is in fact tobiwan.co.uk. I digress.

David Ford is good. You should at least try some David Ford. You can find him here and here. The bonus is that he always lets you download a couple of songs on his myspace. Also if you check the forum under the bootlegs section you can usually download some live stuff too. If you're curious as to when I've talked about him before I think it was here, here and here. Matt the Hat talked aboot him here as well. Oh and before I forget and stop giving out all these dumbass links he was on smalldogandstuff.com here as well.

I've got to go back through and make those links all work now. Goodnight.

You can't have it all..

more like it..

Heylo.

Just discovered this site: The-Phone-Book.com. It's a digital publishing project that commissions international new works of ultra-short fiction for quarterly distribution by wireless and traditional internet.

For a random ultra-short story, click here.

In other news (I haven't used that phrase for a while so I feel I can) I want me one of these:
They just go round and round and round..

£160 new so we're going to the bay methinks.

Third and final I want to tell you this: If you look up dictionary in the dictionary, your eyes will fall out.

..

heavy, doc

Is this my destiny? To always hide away in the trivial because I'm scared to say something wrong? To forever temper myself because I can't escape the desire not to be appear stupid to people.

I usually do anyway, so you'd think I could learn not to let it bother me..

Don't get me wrong, I want to be that balanced, tempered person. But I want to do it out of love. Not fear.

Brennan Manning said the following:

When we accept ourselves for what we are, we decrease our hunger for power or the acceptance of others because our self-intimacy reinforces our inner sense of security. We are no longer preoccupied with being powerful or popular. We no longer fear criticism because we accept the reality of our human limitations. Once integrated, we are less often plagued with the desire to please others because simply being true to ourselves brings lasting peace. We are grateful for life and we deeply appreciate and love ourselves.

And do you know what? I'm beginning to think that I should start believing that living this way would be a good idea. Which leaves me essentially a few steps removed, still, from achieving that type of lifestyle.

They say I must put this foot in front of that one before I reach the horizon..

A little story aboot tea..

Here's the shibby. I bought a box of tea today because there was only one teabag left.

DSC00101.JPG

It was a big box of tea. There was 240 teabags I believe. Now. Last time I bought one of these the wifely somehow managed to pack them into two of the jars that we use in our kitchen. I thought, "right. Teabags in jars. Comin' right up!".

Only thing is, our kitchen now looks like one of those puzzles where you have to find an object that is hidden all over the picture. And this object is a jar of teabags. Lo0o0okity:

DSC00097.JPG DSC00098.JPG
(there's actually a couple in that second one)..

DSC00099.JPG DSC00100.JPG
(ok that last one is a jar of some other kind of hot drink bag. I have no idea what kind and to tell you the truth I'm a little scared to find out because I might end up drinking herbaltea or something.

And hang on a second. Let's take a closer look at that first picture:

DSC00101.JPG

Ignoring, if we may, the desolation and disgusterousness of our kitchen for a second you will notice a key point. There's still teabags in the freakin' box. Dammit.

I want to know El's secret.

Here's a couple of things which I feel like telling the world at large.

I think between myself and El we could have quite a good business checking people's websites for mistakes and making the words on them betterer.

Life Sentence melted my face off last nite. Very cool. Their album cover scares the living nightlights out of me though. It looks like that scary man's coming for me.

I hope you all go to your beds and sleep the good sleep. Remember I am with you always, even until the end of the age.. Hang on, I think that might have been someone else. Not, in fact, me.

oh there's more

I realise that last nite's post wouldn't have been to everyone's taste so I guess there should be more. Here you can see a capture from the Wengen webcam as featured in this post. It appears that a sith lord was just below the webcam playing at the silly beggars™ with his lightsaber. I thought this was in response to my picture of Obi-Wan. Probably.

Sunday afternoon Sunday afternoon. And so on.

I had some political comment to pass on to you but it escapes me at the tick. Another time another time mayhap.

Every year

I forgot again. Three days ago it was the 3 year anniversary of Five Iron Frenzy's last gig.

It was a great gig/evening/weekend. I was there. Let me tell you why. It was because I read a review on the internet of Poor Old Lu's final show (incidentally that was ten years ago two days ago) and was very frustrated that I
  1. wasn't there.
  2. never saw them live.

So I decided if Five Iron broke up I would have to go. So we did.

It was a great weekend. Maybe I'll give an account of it sometime. Not now because El wants the computer.

I'll put together a photoset of the weekend on Flickr as well. Go me.

I'mawaytooverandoutatthecrossroadsabootnowyoy'all.

El, you may now have the computer.

HOWZIT FRIDAT?

Yes that's Fridat. It's a typo that I've let slide. So you will also let it slide.

I'm sorry I've become a bit dictatorial in the last couple posts. It's just a phase. Like the whole alcohol thing I'm sure I'll pass through it someday. Or I might not. You'll never know. Or care I don't doubt.

Now then.. Foop-ball times are tonite. This has been one long week. Not helped by going into work an hour early every day. Tomorrow The AZZman and his other are coming to play. Yay! Also, on Sunday evening Life Sentence are launching their album. Hooray.

Speaking of album launches, ours is January 27th 2007. So you know. Book that date my inter-friends.

Back to Green Wing.

Would this be Clogging in the Netherlands?

Heylo.

I'm away to.. Hang on. That's not right, that's not right at all. So hey I was just aboot to post something I'd already posted before. That's bad isn't it.

I wuz thinking. This all is going to make for lame biographising in later life. I mean should I want to write a biography at some point. This kinds of guff is probably not going to be helping.

OH hang on haven't I written about this before? Oh dammit I can't remember things. Useful information? Probably not. But here's a couple of list items to make up for yesterday.

  • Off to Anwar and Hanwar's soon. A bunch of us are going over for dinner. I like their house

  • Sunrises and sunsets, spectacular ones that is, fade really fast. I was trying to get a picture of a particularly beautiful one this morning but I fumblerised the settings on my camerone and missed the crap out of the good part.

  • Someone on my mum's blog says they can't understand what I'm talking aboot. I don't understand what they mean. I make perfect sensefulness.

  • Couple of minutes yeah?

Right. Now I will post you a picture of Wengen where we are headed for skiing in a month's time. 1 month! Yeah baby. It's night there right now so I have no idea yet what typea quality this will turn out as. Here's to hoping.

I really thought I could muster something. But it turns out I'm all out of thoughts. I really am.

Hopefully I'll get to do something fun tonite.

more great than a cheesegrater

Ok this will be the last one before I post a picture again. I know that's lame but there you go.

A debate in the comments of the last post (a link for lazy people) got me thinking. I was of course comparing my enjoyment of the two films - although I may not have worded it in a way that made it obvious. I understand where people who might feel that certain films are more.. I don't know.. highbrow? are coming from but I'm not very good at distinguishing. I guess if I thought about it I could work it out but the thing is I just don't care enough. The criteria for me is am I enjoying it? I don't need to be appreciating good work to enjoy something. Although obviously if something is badly made that is likely to impair my enjoyment.

I think that's what I meant. I had glimpses in my head of something more erudite and eloquent but then that's just me.

And Aran, if diagonality interferes with perspective you could always go for the close relative of the diagonal (in bed terms of course) the starfish.

no stranger to the good times..

Hello to all my peoples out there in la-la-land.

I am currently in bed watching A Knights Tale (I don't know why I love that film so much, it's almost approaching Enemy of the State - almost mind) drinking wine and eating cheese. And I can be diagonal as well because Elbs is elsewhere.

Once again I had all these things to say but now it comes to it I can't remember any. I suffered the dilemma of whether to leave it until after midnight to post but in the end I thought what the hey. Not the world's greatest dilemma I'll grant you.

Instead what I think I'll do is chronicle these lives and times of which this blog purports to be aboot. It'll be nice to look back on in times to come. It's odd to think that where my grandad left a biography I may well leave this. Maybe I should add some retrospective blogging of what I can remember thus far.

So any case as I have mentioned earlier I have spent a lot of nites up late. This is mostly because I don't want my evenings to have gone to waste. But then I just end up tired. Right here is a prime example. I'm up and I should be out. Cold. But then I don't have to get up too early tomorrow I guess.

I'm not sure about chronicling anymore. Not sure I can be bothered. Tomorrow we're putting together more video stuff for the album promo. Julian's up from Brighton so I think we're seeing him tomorrow evening.

I'm not so good at this picature with every blog thing as evidenced by the 'ship and the Kel-Star. I think you'll cope.

Blimey gosh I've wittered on for a jolly age. I think we'll rest with overandout. Yesh that shall suffice for now.

Technically it's Friday

It's Friday now so I'ma post and get ahead of the games..

Open mic was a roaring success. What else could it be. I do hope that when Jack comes back from goodnessknowswhereland that he'll be into what we've been doing. Time will tell I don't doubt.

On another note I do love David Ford's music. It makes me happy. Check out his myspace for some tunes..

Some of you will have been disturbed by it.

All I can say to you naysayers is that it could have been worse.

Whatelsenext? Open Mic Nite tonite. Again. As you'd expect. Open Micspace.

Also, there's some worrying news that's been brought to my attention today. We must make a stand.

I'm about done here.

Go and listen to Breathing Light by Nitin Sawhney. It's just about as perfect a piece of music as I could imagine.

fantastic distraction

Feeling unmotivated and demoralised today.

Stayed up late the last µ nights (where µ >= abignumber).

I wonder if those two could be possibly related?

Moving swiftly on before I get too much unwanted/warranted sympathy.. Band practice in Brighton tonite. New song shock horror. We're taking photos prior and probably during. Photos for the album cover. Did I mention we're making an album? I think I may have. It was due out March 06 and should be out January 07. So we're doing better than Microsoft.

I must go and shave. My fur is getting stupid. Still not a beard. Bawling like a baby I am.

Oh and get dressed. Yes. These would be good things to do..

Maybe I'll post some band practice photos tonite/tomorrow. Yeah. Maybe that's what I'll do.

ben folds, fine wine and so on

We're here setting the world to rights whilst eating good food and listening to the a-four-mentioned.

We had an interesting lemon meringue pie experience. It would seem that someone put the lemon rind in the sauce but not the juice of 2 large lemons. But it's all good because we rocked up a lemon sauce with the remaining and poured it on top. And what do you know it tasted wick-ass..

What else? Oh yeah, mum's posting pictures of nakedity again. Tut tut.

I'm about done now. We're watching Peter Gabriel's Growing Up Live. And El wants the potpal from me.

Coming soon (actually probably not, you know what I'm like) a list of overused phrases from tobiwan.co.uk. If someone could provide a piece of software that would just trawl through automatically and tell me then maybe we'll be in business.

Anyway. Overandout.

Oh hello.

It's you.

Not much to report/rapport this week. Don't know why. My creative centres must not be firing on all cylinders. Maybe I've got the edge of a cold and I'm a little run down. Should be solved by a luh-hate evening playing poker tomorrow? Perhaps not.

Anyways.. Tonite I have got multiple treats for the Elbs. First there will be nice flowers from the nice flower shop. Next up will be Curryness. Then an Iced bun and then a cinema visit. Nice me.

I can hear The Circle by Ocean Colour Scene. Lovely. Good choice Joelyboy.

OK I did write something. Sue me. Actually don't, I don't have any money.

jsut to let you know

I'm not really posting anything here. I'd just like it to be known that I may have something profound brewing. Hopefully I'll be able to drop it on you but it needs to be more fully formed.

Also, you should know that the supposed typo in the title was deliberate. I like to mix it up.

and it begins.. again

Did anyone notice that November crept up on us awful quick again? Me too.

It's Monday morning. And that must mean Week Summary time here at tobiwan.co.uk. What's all going down this week, eh?

  • Today going to the in-laws as El must have haircuts and I must finish watching Oliver! I'm also going to see the Nubjee for a little time

  • Tomorrow is cricket general meeting

  • Wednesday we're having a big ol' bunch of people over for dinner and general hang-outs

  • Thursday is.. Well gosh actually I don't know

  • Friday will be foop-ball and poker

  • Saturday my dadhead will be staying over

  • Sunday will be playing the gee-tar at churps then goodness knows what other high jinks

These are short because El is nearly ready and I'm racing the clock. Yes yes.

Have a good weekstart my good peoples.

why am I still up?

Any takers?

I shouldn't be. I was waiting for El to tidy the bed so that's a slight excuse. Anyway. I won't keep me long. We went to Brighton today for a band practice. It was good. I forgot how good it is to play. We jammed up a few new ideas which has got me wanting to write some more so that's good. Once the new stuff becomes new stuff it should be prit-ty good.

Also, we got our first live review: http://www.holytoilet.com/blam/blam_nov2006.asp. It's pretty damn complimentary. Which is nice.

Right what else? Um, not much actually. I hope you're having good lifes out there in la-la-land.

I have said good too much. This because I have minor brain mulfanctionessnes brought on by sleep deprivation.

There's an easy cure for this.

Which I shall take now.

dry eyes in the pouring rain..

Hey there. I'm not going to keep you long. My wiffle is in bed keeping it warm and I am in my boxer shorts so my skin is getting all goosebumpy. It's been a while so I will update you with some random thoughts on this Open Mic Nite Thursday..

Without further ado:

(and with no more gilding the lily - needless to say):

  • Switchfoot get it so right in so very many songs. If you would like to know what's going on in my head check out the following: The Shadow Proves the Sunshine, Only Hope, The Loser, Erosion, Under The Floor, You, Don't Be There, Home, Golden, Meant To Live.. I could go on, but I'm not going to.

  • Nostalgia wins the day. I just bought Fantastic Distraction by Dime Store Prophets. Not the best album ever but it brings back memories. So it means a lot to me. Also FIF's producer is their guitarist/violinist/vocalist. Hats off to Masaki.

  • Brought back to memory by the last two, I had a profound thought about music earlier. True to form it totally escapes me what it was right now. You can't win them all

  • Things are feeling poignant right now. Go listen to some Switchfoot you'll see what I mean

  • I'm in danger of breaking down into meaningless drivel ("ha! In danger of?" I hear you cry) so I think it's about time I'm hit that sack now

  • I wonder if Matt will post tonite

Dones.
