dust off your hands

Well we're pretty much wrapping things up here. Alls that I can say is that weekend was probably the awesomest end to a b i r t h w e e k™ as I can imagine. Firstly more or less two hours of foop-ball in total on Friday left me aching but feeling good (particularly as coughdrinkingcough was to ensue).

Then Saturday we finally got the vocals working for the album and I nailed seven and a half songs in 3 or 4 hours. Next came white wine and Dylan, who was on top form.

Dinner at the in-laws is always a joy and then the party. Well.. Pretty much the best birthday party I've had. Hands down.

Awesome hair? Check
Dancing to 80s classics including Turtle Power and Thundercats? Check
Kickass aftershow party at Imhoteps? Check
Delightful amounts of alcohol? Check
Drunken rambling? Check

I think there's a couple things to come (including a present from Anwar and Woody I've been led to believe) but all that's really left now is to work out how to make this even more splendid next year. It's gonna be a tough one to beat.

approaching half way

B i r t h w e e k ™ is progressing quite very nicely thankyou.

Friday was enhanced by ending up at Mr Jack's leaving party thing. Oh and by losing my voice singing along to 3dBs Down at the top of my lungs.

Hatt and The Jew took my money on Saturday nite so that was lame.

Being at the 'rents was fun and funny as always.

And tonite. Well. Bowling my brains out with my strangeboys.. that's just more fun than can possibly be legal. Plus I won 2 out of 5 games. Though I think the beers may have affected the standings somewhat. (I was driving you see, and none of them were).

Let the fun continue..

- Friday, May 19, 2006 -

the thing is..

I've forgotten what the thing was already. I got distracted by some other stuff and now I have no idea why I'm here. ( I just spelt here wrong twice by the way - hear and hera).

It might have been because tonite was the last Jack Lewis™ Open Mic Nite. For a year. Ish. That's right. Jack's off travelling for possibly a year. I'm taking over in his place. We're gonna rock it in the spirit of Jack. So I hope to see you there in two weeks time. That's not my BIRTHDAY (24th May) but the week after, the 2nd of June. I'm not going to tell you how long that took to work out in my head. Too long is roughly the answer.

I can't think what else it might have been that I so desperately needed to tell you.

Maybe it was that birthweek has been extended very probably to thirteen events of mayhem. Monday is now bowling with strangeday. Tuesday is drinkys with work people and the following Tuesday is hopefully drinks with broseph Joel. Word.

Also, I think I need.. Well.. want.. well.. will point out that I've not been so profilic on here recently as times gone past. I think this is for a few reasons. It kinda got to the point where I was thinking, "carp, I'd better write something good, this is my blog." Which more often than not resulted in not writing anything. Also, I realised just how sad it actually is to be doing this when I could be, I don't know, having a life. Finally I have been putting a lot into recording the album lately. I think that pretty much drains my creativity.

However. I have realised the solution is in fact twofold. First I must realise that this all doesn't matter and I should go back to posting any old crap. I mean I was posting aboot the weather back in December for Toby's sake (do you like that? It's a new idea I had. Goes quite well with my egocentricity. Plus of course I'm fairly sure it's not a sin to take your own name in vain). The second solution is that it's no bad thing to post whilst under the influence of at least alcohol and caffeine. It gets the old rubbish-talking part of my brain working overtime and quite frankly that was the whole idea in the first place.

I think I'm about leave it there (yes that does make sense, but you kinda gotta be in my brain). Except to say that I think it's aboot safe a time to tell you that the reason my blog is titled as it is and has been for some time and will be for some more, is that it's to do with the time that I first set up this baby. I'm going to leave it at that. If you don't understand what I'm talking aboot then more shame for you.

I know I say this a lot..

But I've got another idea for a blog/website. It may happen. I'll look into it.

When I say a lot I don't really mean it to be honest. I've said it maybe once or twice in the last year.

So. Next week is birthweek again. Here's how we're shaping up thus far:

Thursday 18th - Open Mic Night
Friday 19th - strangeday Gig and general merriment (including 3dBs Down again
Saturday 20th - strangeday Gig and probably general merriment. Possibly some poker.
Sunday 21st - Family meal
Monday 22nd - Not yet booked. Likely pubbing
Tuesday 23rd - Not yet booked. Possible bowling
Wednesday 24th - Actual birthday and likely meal with wife.
Thursday 25th - Trip to London with Bobcat to buy a hockey jersey
Friday 26th - Foop-ball and general pubbing.
Saturday 27th - Dylan Moran
Sunday 28th - In-laws meal and Official party
Monday 29th - Not yet booked (bank holiday so possibly Brighton trip?)

You gotta love birthweek. Well. Getting on for birthfortnight actually. Assuming I manage to book up the available slots. Any takers/ideas?

observation

Why do people still use the phrase 'as seen on tv'. I mean really. Who is going to see that and think "I'll buy it!".

Actually I'm not sure why I'm even asking this question. I bet there are millions of people who will do exactly that.

Forget it.

good yawning

Late nite. We were at Covent Garden not getting through to the next round of the Battle. It's all good though. We met a nice band called Climber and we played well I thought. Then afterwards the four of us shared a car home via a McDonalds. Very funny.

It's raining. Quite hard. I like it. Apparently I'm alone in this.

I'm done.

Work to do/avoid and all that.

- Friday, May 05, 2006 -

well well..

It's still a constant source of amazement to me that a complete stranger taking an offence to something I'm doing (consciously or not) can have such a negative effect on me. Really. I tell myself that it doesn't matter but I don't believe me.

Honestly, it happened tonite in the most anonymous of circumstances but I can't shake it. Yet. Maybe tomorrow. Just give me time. I swear I can get through this..

- Wednesday, May 03, 2006 -

go on then..

But only because you've been so good lately.

Another post. Well well. Actually I really have nothing to say. It's another lovely day and I'm stuck in a stinkin' office. There's some fun for ya.

Later.

Required Listening

This summer you should be relistening to 1977 by Ash. I don't think it gets summeryer than this. Summerer. Summ.. More Summerer. Just do it for goodness' sakes.

I know I am.

Here's some random post-bank-holiday-Tuesday-morning thoughts for you:

  • I don't think working in an office on a lovely day is ever going to get easier. Ever.

  • The incinerator™ was not on top form last nite. I don't think I fed him enough charcoal. We ended up cooking in the dark. Could be dangerous.

  • There is an incredible number of jobs that seem to exist just for there to be jobs. I guess you'd call it the middleman syndrome. Does anyone actually find these jobs fulfilling? Honestly I have no idea.

  • It must be hard in life if you don't have some kind of dream or aspiration. You'd think everyone would have one, but it appears that this isn't the case. I think what's harder is the modern dream of fame. You should have something to do to get that fame and if that is the case it's not actually fame you want, fame is just a corollary. But just wanting to be famous can't be too much fun. Or maybe it is. Maybe I'm missing the point.

  • Top 5 albums of all time (as of the now):

Five Iron Frenzy - Our Newest Album Ever!

    dc Talk - Jesus Freak

    Ash - 1977

Nirvana - Unplugged in New York

    Switchfoot - Nothing Is Sound

  • It's never as bad as you thought it might have been.

I think that's pritty [sic] much your lot for today. I've had better days with more original thoughts, but that's the chance you take with reading this guff.
