you know what today is kids?
Election day. woo hoo
I really must stop watching the politicians on TV. In fact possibly I need to not watch TV at all. Or read newspapers. Or listen to the radio. It just gets me riled up. I think for a number of reasons.
1. Everyone accusing everyone else of talking bullsh*t. The fact is, I'm not sure even one of them isn't.
2. The media makes average people seem to think they're experts on everything. There's no concept of experience and non soundbitey knowledge. I know that soundbitey isn't a word.
3. Issues are often portrayed as a lot more black and white than they are. And of course this is exaggerated when you get down to Average Joe's level.
4. This one really irks me: You're allowed to say something's proven when it's patently not. I've seen this in regard to a few things. The ones that jump out are Evolution and the government's guilt over Iraq. Not proven I'm afraid.
I think that'll do for now. I need to calm down. It's just the media. Oh yeah. POINT number zero (should have been at the beginning.) the media point the finger at liars and lambaste them. Has no-one ever heard of hypocrisy? Don't get me wrong. I'm probably the biggest hypocrite in here, but I think I'm slightly less arrogant because of a (probably small) awareness of that fact.
As ever I'ma have to temper my argument by saying I'm sure there are many good and great people who are writing/broadcasting/whatever. And probably there's no other ways for the other guys to operate. I mean, if you're not going to speak out about something because of fear of hypocrisy then probably hardly anyone should be able to speak out. But still.
If some other body (*coughthechurchcough*) did similar then the media would be up in arms. I think that's why it gets my goat.
Well there it is. Hopefully this is a balanced piece of writing. But I doubt it.
toby one.
